Is it friday yet?

Ah, Thursday.

“I have a ticket to pay, but, before I pay the ticket, I’d like to talk with the parking manager or your supervisor.”

“Alright.”

Polite and courteous. But not for long.

“I parked in the lot behind (location) at (time), and I got a parking ticket.”

“Okay.”

“But I don’t get it. I mean there were like 50 open spaces, so why did I get a ticket for parking there? It’s not like I was taking up someone’s space or anything.”

“Well, every university member pays for parking. If they pay for parking, why should you be able to park for free?”

“Well, I realize that. But, if there were like 50 opens spaces, it doesn’t mean that I’m taking someone else’s parking space or anything like that. If that was the case, then I’d understand the ticket. But there were plenty of spaces, so why did I get this?”

“It still doesn’t matter. If everyone else is paying for parking, it would be unfair if you got to park for free.”

Next segment:

“I pay tuition, and I pay fees to the schools, so why don’t I receive parking in exchange too?”

“Because the office is not funded by state money. By charging user fees, we are able to maintain our parking lots, clear snow, and provide additional parking whenever possible.”

“Well, you seem to making plenty of money. You’re like a business here. And it’s good money too. I mean you built the parking ramp and everything.”

“The parking ramp was built by taking out bonds. And it will take 15 years to pay them off.”

“Well, all you need to do is hand out some more tickets, and then you’ll be able to pay those bonds off sooner.”

Good deduction, Sherlock. Clap, clap, clap.

First tow:

After nearly two years of working here, I got to meet a tow person for the first time.

Calm, cool, and did not even blink an eye.

Total: More than $500 in parking tickets and $75 for towing expenses.
